Let Them Play in the Dark

The clocks have changed, the evenings are shorter, and daylight disappears before we know it… but your child’s need to move, play, and release energy hasn’t changed at all. 🌙

Even in the cooler, darker months, it’s so important to help children unwind and regulate their nervous systems before sitting down for homework or bedtime. Movement, play, and laughter are how the body resets from a busy day — no matter their age.

So bundle them up, grab a torch, or let them chase shadows under the streetlights. 🌟
Playing outside in the dusk or dark can actually build confidence, curiosity, and emotional flexibility. It’s the body’s natural way of letting go of tension and learning to adapt.

Every child has their own way of rebalancing — running, swinging, kicking a ball, dancing, or simply lying on the grass or on the trampoline and looking up at the night sky. The key is to notice what works best for them — and to keep reading those subtle signals of stress, calm, and joy.

Because this — just like in babyhood — is still Body Language in motion. 💚

You can learn more about recognising these nervous system cues and supporting your child’s emotional regulation through my course, Decoding Your Child’s Body Language.
